Crazyology Dispatch I
August 2026
Hey Everybody!!
(If you’re not “everybody” then you’re definitely a SOMEBODY IMPORTANT TO ME — but I would never address you as “Hey Somebody”, so just accept being an “EVERYBODY” — it’s more interesting than being a “NOBODY”, right?)
Welcome!! This is the first “Crazyology Dispatch”. News from David Normal and the Institute of Crazyology. This email is the first installment of a monthly newsletter about Crazyological art productions (such as Cathenge), Crazyological ideas, and far-flung Crazyological adventures. If you don’t want to receive these mailings then hit the unsubscribe. For further info about these dispatches (and about Crazyology in general) visit crazyology.org/about-dispatches.
Perhaps you haven’t heard from me in awhile, but I’m alive and doing extremely well and been VERY busy over the past couple of years. Here’s what’s going on:

About
Cathenge is a large-scale immersive art installation: six interactive, 3D-printed Space Cat Idols known as the Catoliths, first presented at Burning Man 2019 and installed as SF Arts Commission public art at Patricia’s Green in Hayes Valley from 2022 to 2024. The Space Cat Sessions are your chance to experience it directly.
- Myth. Cathenge carries an epic sci-fi backstory — the Lyran Space Cats, their wars with the Disco-Reptilians, the fall of Space Cat civilization, the transubstantiation of the Cat Priestesshood of Pussiopolis to Planet Earth, and the creation of mankind as a pro-wrestling species.
- Technology. Cathenge is technology art, and the Sessions are a gathering point for artists and engineers working in immersive and interactive media. Ideas for new Cathenge features are actively encouraged.
- Metaphysics. “Mind over Matter through the Power of Pleasure” is the timeless maxim of the Lyran Space Cats — expressed through Holofelinity, the Nine Cat Chakras, the Purrrgasm, and practices like Holoplasmic Movement and Cat Chakra Meditation.
The Spire Space Cat Sessions will run (more or less) monthly, evolving with each new development in Space Cat Technology and Metaphysics. A Crazyology production, in collaboration with Spire the Church. All are welcome.
New Development
Crazyology Studio in Beautiful West Oakland

Crazyology Studios, a “Ghetto Shang Gri La”, complete with my beloved vintage Citroen cars!!
In January of 2024 I rented out a patch of concrete just a block from the West Oakland Bart. No nothing, no electricity, no water, no shelter. Since that time I have expanded to 3 cargo containers, a trailer, and indoor facilities for 3D printing. The studio runs on solar power and starlink and includes facilities for painting, electronics fabrication, video projection and (obviously . . . lol) auto repair.

A couple of teasers heralding the next Crazyology Dispatch:
“Neon Flamingoes” — the 25th of my 99 Sonnets, adapted as a song. This is an essential part of the forthcoming “LABAIRINTH” project. Check my Suno for more and different songs.
Here’s a video from the “Loose Spirits” archive of Trance/Spirit Possession and Festival Culture Worldwide. I have been traveling extensively in Indonesia and Mexico in the past few years, and have relaunched this ethnographic investigation of traditional art, magic and culture that I began in the early 2000s. Much, much more to share in the next dispatch!
